The concept of issuing college credits for skilled trades training is not new. Traditionally academic programs have issued college credits for classroom training and on-the-job experience, which they call internship, but we call apprenticeship. Through the UA University program we are now able to issue college credits for our traditional classroom and on-the-job training. Our partnership with Washtenaw Community College allows each UA apprentice to earn 32 credits for their five year apprenticeship. Journeyworkers may receive these same credits through the UA STAR program. These credits may be applied to an associate degree in several fields described below. This associate degree can then be transferred to one of our four-year university partners: The National Labor College and Ferris State University. All degree programs may be completed remotely without having to visit the college campus. Degree requirements for each program are specific to each university.
